Week 2
Team of the Week: Lowercase, who came up with a huge 84 points thanks largely to Vermaelen

Adam’s ideal Team of the week:

Started game week 5
Last week: 50 points
Season: 103 points

@Adam: I looked at Hangeland.
I like the way you think.
I propose that at the end of season the manager of the winning team get to put a star next to his/her commenter name and receive preferential treatment from founder/writers of ATD.
I don’t see how anything could possibly go wrong with this idea.
This will either work out spectacularly, or everyone will figure out how to get a star next to their name.
It’ll work spectacularly.
And what if one of us wins, smart guy? What then?
Anyone have any input on my picks?
GK: Howard [Everton]
DF: Vidic [Man Utd]
DF: Lescott [Everton]
DF: Hangeland [Fulham]
DF: Hughes [Fulham]
MF: Gerrard [Liverpool]
MF: Kuyt [Liverpool]
MF: Neville [Everton]
MF: Geovanni [Hull City]
ST: Agbonlahor [Aston Villa]
ST: Crouch [Tottenham]
BN:
GK: Sorensen [Stoke City]
ST: Ebanks-Blake [Wolves]
DF: Bramble [Wigan]
MF: Mikel [Chelsea]
Just that you should run screaming from Titus Bramble- unless there’s something in our league that gets you extra points for own goals, ill-advised yellow cards, and penalty causing tackles. Otherwise, it looks as good as anyone else’s!
I’d look at replacing Mikel with someone else as I don’t think he’ll do much this season, and I’m not big on Agbonlahor. Otherwise it looks good, don’t listen to fuse, for the price Bramble is good.
I made some changes and think i made more harm than good. Do you think picking Kuyt and Gerrard is a little counterproductive? Especially with no real backup. I was thinking of dropping agbon and and Kuyt for a cheap striker and Lampard

It’s hard to know how much Kuyt benefited from Gerrard and Torres being out so much last season, there isn’t any question it helped him, but I still think he’s good.
While Gerrard and Lampard are both excellent, it does leave the rest of the team a little weak, especially in terms of your bench depth. But when they’re both playing you’re getting a ton of points from them.
I am a fan of cheap strikers that play a lot. I’d at least keep an eye on Jozy Altidore, he’s 5 million but if he’s starting on a regular basis, he could do wonders on that Hull team.
if you had 5 to spend on a midfielder for your bench who would you go with?
Not sure if kompany is even worth the gamble as a backup and I dont knwo how much mikel is going to play.
Phil Nevile is a good buy. Kompany won’t be getting close to the final 1/3rd of the field most of the year and Mikel’s playing time will probably be low. The best upside of those three is Mikel though.
Yeah, already have neville starting. Was considering Lucas, but with the same reservation as Kompany that he wont get enough time towards the end of the pitch.
People tend to not like Mikel on fantasy, but he is seeming like the safest bet right now.
He very well could be, I might just go with him for now. The other guys I’d keep an eye on that are 5 million are Jack Wilshire, Aaron Ramsey and Bjorn Riise. Especially Riise since he might be starting.
Don’t go with Lucas; he gets too many cards and contributes very little else.
Good to see you around, but no gunners, not even Arshavin?
I nearly pulled the trigger a couple of times but the early schedule is not what one would call “favorable”. I’d like to pick him up after we’re away to Fulham on Sept. 26.
Yeah, my only concern is that he’ll come out of the gate with a couple of good games and his price will skyrocket.
So, um, yeah…about that “early schedule”…

I’ve deleted all the comments that were just lineups from early on to cut down on the clutter in here since we’ve probably all changed them and we can all see each others anyways, but feel free to do as Mr. Red Devil and post your lineup week to week.
Are we able to see other teams’ lineups from now on in the league page, or will we need to post them here? I was just posting updates because the week one lineups weren’t made public – wasn’t sure if that would change.
you’ll be able to see other lineups once the games start; before the games, you’ll only see the previous week’s lineup, not up-to-date transfers or starters.
Yeah no problem, like Toledo said you can see the previous weeks lineup but no transfers, not that it’s a huge deal since typically you can only pick up 1 player per week. Feel free to post whatever you’d like in here, Questions, comments, lineups, etc. I’ll probably come through once a month or so and wipe some comments out so it doesn’t see too much clutter.
Okay, I have a question. For week 2 (i.e., tomorrow), a lot of my guys are off; I can only make one switch, which will leave me with one guy on my final roster not playing. Will I get no points for him this week? If so, will I then get double points when the makeup games start being played?
You’ll get a 0 from the guy who doesn’t play, because this is considered a week. But when makeup games are played and it’s not considered a fantasy week, you get points from both games
So it’s ultimately a wash, provided the player plays in the later fixture. Good to know.
it does seem like you could maximize your points with careful planning and luck and get more than 38 x 11 starts out of your squad. but i haven’t spent much time thinking that through exactly and it’s confusing me already. i think more than half my roster is off this “week.”
I think I need to use my wildcard to do that, and it seems to early for that. I just dropped Hughes for Bassong, though.
Yeah don’t use the wildcard just yet. I found the best use for the wildcard is for when you want one player in a position you want but you have your max of players from that team so you drop one guy and make room for the other.
Also remember that you can skip a transfer one week to accumulate 2 transfers to use in one week, or you can always drop an extra guy for -4 points so if you’ve got multiple injured guys it’s not a bad idea to take the hit because someone who plays a full 90 will score 2 points and probably more.
Week 2 – 4-3-3

DF – Hangeland
DF – Carragher
DF – Corluka
DF – Ab.Faye
MD – Lampard (C)
MD – Park
MD – Mikel

Transfer – Joe Hart for Brad Friedel
ILL WIN
I just checked my weekend’s fantasy roundup, and I’ve obviously not gotten any points for the Liverpool-Aston Villa players on my roster. That made me wonder, though: do Monday night games get treated as part of Gameweek 3, or am I going to get double points for the Liverpool players on my bench next weekend?
Nevermind, I figured it out. I might’ve been better off before they’d played, incidentally…
Fantasy Premier League 2010/2011 is up and running, is there an Avoiding the Drop League yet?
