There was a lot of great discussion last week when the third annual Droppies were announced, but unfortunately all of the spirited back-and-forth only generated three actual submissions! So, this is a little reminder of the categories (after the jump) both old and new as well as an announcement that the deadline for submitting your votes has been extended to Tuesday, June 7th. Please make sure to have your votes in to avoidingthedrop@gmail.com by midnight EST on Sunday, June 5th.
- Transfer of the Year- it doesn’t have to be a good one!
- Manager of the Year- club or country.
- Club of the Year
- League of the Year
- National Team of the Year
- Goalkeeper of the Year*
- Young Player of the Year*- 25 years or younger.
- Old Player of the Year*- 35 years or older.
- Player of the Year*
- Goal of the Year
*remember that one player can win more than one of these awards. For example, last year Lionel Messi won the Young Player and over all Player of the Year awards. A goalkeeper could also conceivably win three of the four awards.
This year we will also be continuing the tradition of adding an award or two each year by introducing the following awards:
- The Gascgoine- this award goes to the player whose off-field exploits most overshadowed his on-field accomplishments.
- The Match of the Year- self-explanatory.
Alright, stop talking and start voting!!

6 comments so far- 20+ would be nice if we’re going to have some meaningful results!
That includes you ATD staff members* too!
*except Mags!
I voted! Also, I vote for Forlan for “Guy Who Unexpectedly Kicked Ass at the WC”.
I wanted to put Nigel de Jong in that category, but let’s face it, who didn’t expect him to kick ass there?
Are we using Chicago voting rules or are we limited to one vote each?
If you have more than one email address…
Kinda like the “Best Kit” competition?
Like Jack Burton always says, the check is in the mail.
