Apologies for not posting this earlier – I had it scheduled to come on this morning, but it didn’t take…
Based on the responses (or complete lack thereof), this challenge was either impossible or unpopular – and if you’d attempted to tackle the Challenge by matching the dates provided to players in a lineup, it would be quite difficult. However, the “extra credit” was the hint that revealed the answer. Magnakai Haaskivi even guessed at it in the comments for the Challenge – the commonality between the mystery team and one of our contributors: a common birthday.
Find out more after the jump.
Associação Naval 1º de Maio (Portuguese Primeira Liga): Founded May 1, 1893
Green Eggs and Fulham: Founded May 1, 1980
Commonality: Neither one of us will be in the Portuguese top division in 2011-12.
After that, it’s just a matter of digging through the dates – although you would have to visit Naval’s official website for some of the players we’re about to mention…Wikipedia, it turns out, isn’t as complete as we thought.
The lineup presented was the starting 11 for Naval 1º de Maio for their match against Benfica on April 10, 2011 – a 2-1 victory for a team that is all but assured of relegation to the Second Division of Portuguese football next season, being 5 points deep in the drop zone with two matches to play.

Not an easy challenge, I will grant you that. Maybe Fuse (or someone else?) will have more mercy on you with tomorrow’s Challenge – come by and find out!

Man, I tried to make it match up to Rochdale’s squad birthdays.
I think everyone would have gotten it had it been a Rochdale challenge – maybe someday I’ll have some compassion on everyone and make one of those instead.
