When Cowdenbeath’s ancient striker- and former Scottish international- Stevie Crawford scored in the 76th minute of their match against Stirling this afternoon it looked as thought next week’s match between Ross County and Cowdenbeath was going to determine who stayed in the SFL First Division next year. A Cowdenbeath win in that match and they stay up, a Ross County draw or win and the Staggies stay up. But then, in the 92nd minute of Ross County’s away match against third place Falkirk F.C., a hero was born.
Jonathan Flynn, Ross County’s U-21 Northern Ireland international defender, scored his third goal of the season to give the Staggies the win and all but assure* Ross County another season of First Division football next year. I’ll delve into all of the details and ramifications of this development in Monday’s edition of “County Watch,” but suffice it to say this win (and not being relegated) will have a beneficial impact on the club’s financial situation, prestige, and ability to retain and attract new players.
You can just see the ball going in before pandemonium ensues.
Well done lads!!
PS: Being able to be home and to follow the match “live” online was almost enough of a reason to have surgery.
*Ross County would have to lose by 11 goals to Cowdenbeath next weekend to drop into 9th place and the relegation/promotion playoffs against the top Second Division sides.

Congrats!
Now to figure out if Dundee will be the same dire financial straits that nearly saw them out this season in 2011-12 – that would complicate the First Division, I’m sure.
Nothing definitive has been said in either direction, but the logic all season has been that if the players could do the job on the field (keep them up despite the 25 point penalty), investors would be much more likely to get involved in the club and that that would go a long way towards straightening out the clubs finances.
Well, the players did their part, they’re staying up.
Whoever that guy was who made that volley cross to keep the ball in play was fantastic!
That would be forward Steven Milne who was subbed on in the middle of the second half for defender Paul Lawson.
The substitution was made (I’m assuming given the timing) right after news reached the County bench that Cowdenbeath had gone ahead in their match against Stirling Albion.
Manager Jimmy Calderwood apparently decided he wanted to end things today, not next week, but I’m not sure he thought the impact of Milne coming on would be so direct!
Congratulations!
It is my video btw. I lost control of the camera when it went in. Haha
