What you missed while the CIA was declassifying their invisible ink recipe…
- English Premier League roundup: Tottenham 3-3 Arsenal, Chelsea 3-1 Birmingham.
- Copa del Rey roundup: Barcelona 0-1 Real Madrid (aet). In other Copa del Rey news, Sergio Ramos dropped the cup under the bus during the victory parade. This is why Real Madrid can’t have nice things, Sergio.
- CONCACAF Champions League roundup: Monterrey 2-2 Real Salt Lake.
- UEFA president Michel Platini has this to say about the doubling of ticket prices for this year’s Champions League final: “Sorry.”
- Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is in comfortable condition after suffering chest pains and being admitted to the hospital yesterday.
- Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles has been voted the ESPN PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award, which begs the question: what’s the criteria for winning the ESPN PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award?
- Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says that he’ll make a late decision on whether or not to play Jamie Carragher and Andy Carroll on Saturday.
- Liverpool striker Milan Jovanovic admits that it was a mistake to join Liverpool on a free transfer last summer. I agree, but I’m not sure he’s the one who made the mistake.
- Former Arsenal midfielder Perry Groves thinks that Arsenal should sell Cesc Fabregas if there’s a good enough offer. I’m not sure I disagree with him.
- Because Arsenal gave up winning games for Lent, Chelsea are now in second place.
- Carlo Ancelotti still insists that Fernando Torres will score this season.
- Blackpool manager Ian Holloway isn’t worried about losing midfielder Charlie Adam this summer because it’s completely out of his control.
- Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta won’t face a UEFA suspension for receiving an intentional booking against Shakhtar Donetsk.
- Silvio Berlusconi’s daughter Barbara has been voted onto the AC Milan board.
- Inter Milan CEO Ernesto Paolillo has backed manager Leonardo with everything but cash for new signings in the summer.
- In a complete contradiction of that story, Inter are apparently planning on signing Luka Modric this summer.
Jovanovic is an awesome dude. Maybe not good enough for the EPL, I don’t know, but he was something of a cult figure in Belgium. Hope we haven’t heard the last of him.
I have a feeling that Rafa Benitez had a specific role or plan for him, and that when Benitez left he took that role with him; Jovanovic has been barely used this year, but it’s hard to say that’s really his fault, or Hodgson’s fault, or Dalglish’s fault. If anything, the main fault was signing a free transfer with a club that was as in flux as Liverpool were last summer.
Does the CCL work on the away goals rule?
My understanding is that away goals count unless a tie goes into extra time, at which point they no longer count (i.e., if RSL and Monterrey draw 2-2 in the next leg, and then draw 1-1 aet, it goes to penalties). That’s based solely on Wikipedia and could very easily be wrong, but the convoluted nature by which an easy system is implemented has CONCACAF written all over it.
OK. That makes some sense. But RSL can still go 1-1 at home and win then, since extra time wasn’t needed?
I think so, yeah.
I don’t think the celebration of the Resurrection is going to resurrect Arsenal’s winning ways, but I like the joke. Me, I’m done w following Arsenal for this season. I’m liking Kenny’s epithet to Arsene more and more.
Also, Berlusconi’s daughter = wow! She’s quite a bit better looking than her old man.
She looks like the type to host her own bunga-bunga parties, you should look into it!
Pato would know…
…and, of course, the SFL has ruled that Ross County and Queen of the South must replay the the entire match that has already been abandoned twice (it was actually postponed once before the two abandonments!), and if that were not enough, the match will be at Palmerston again and…wait for it…AT NIGHT!! Just the time you want to replay a match that has been abandoned twice due to floodlight failure.
County have ten days to appeal, although that could disrupt the promotion playoff fixtures…which kind of makes me hope that they file an appeal.
They should appeal in nine days.
Wow that is BS. I smells a conspiracy.
