DC United has officially taken Charlie Davies on loan for the 2011 MLS season. He’s wearing the #9! There’s a live press conference slated for 2pm. I love this move! It has nothing to do with the fact that I’ll get to see him play every home match, I swear.
Here’s the club press release: http://www.dcunited.com/press-release/2011/02/dc-united-acquires-forward-charlie-davies
Good find. I like the move, especially because it’ll be a good “final verdict” on where Davies is in terms of recovery. If he comes back and can play at the MLS level, than there’s perhaps something worth salvaging; if not, though, than his career might sadly be over at the international level. As long as he’s actually getting some games in, it’ll be interesting.
I agree with you completely. The fact that he’s going on loan with DC makes me think that he’s doing well in his recovery. Benny Olsen has tough job getting DC back on track this season, and I don’t think he’d take Charlie unless he really thought he could play at the MLS level. It should make for an entertaining season. I’m looking forward to watching him play in March.
Tough luck for Bunbury, but the club originally feared it was a broken elbow, which could have sidelined him for 5 months. So, I’ll take a 2 to 4 week window for sure. Still expect him to have a breakout season and for the offers for him to be too lucrative for SKC to pass up within a year or so. He also could legitimately be the striker the USMNT has been waiting for. If you haven’t seen him yet, watch for him this year, and look up the “Boon-burr-eee!” call of his penalty shot goal against Chile.
Latest i heard Gattuso was receiving an 8 match ban from the UEFA board
