While preparing this week’s column I discovered that I was missing one of the items (the 2009-2010 Scotland change socks) that I had planned on featuring. As disconcerting as that was I steeled myself and decided that I would soldier on. However, as I continued with my writing I discovered something even more troubling…

I wanted to give a bit of Footy 101 today to those of us who read us who might be trying to learn the game. For those of you just here for the television schedule, it’s below the jump as usual. I wanted to talk a bit about tackling and what you hear on the [...]

So as it turns out, the 2022 vote on Qatar might also include Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Why, you ask? Well, it’s entirely possible that Qatar will not have the infrastructure in place to actually hold the World Cup in 2022, and FIFA’s head idiot, Sepp Blatter, says that the region may have to pitch [...]

Ross County F.C. v. Partick Thistle F.C. (Saturday) With all of last weekend’s First Division matches postponed due to snow/frozen pitches, the situation remains the same for the Staggies- a win and they could move up fifth place. The only change is that they will be facing a slightly better club this week in Partick [...]

Unlike last week, I’ve never met any of the players involved in the questions below, never mind had tea with them! Last week’s questions were, no doubt, a bit Dingwall-centric, so I’ve gone out of my way to cast my net a little wider this week. That being said, they aren’t necessarily any easier. Finally, [...]

Last Call – HO HO HO

Welcome to Wednesday’s Last Call! We hope this evening finds you well. The Champions’ League group stages are finished and we now know who will be in the knock out stages. However, the draw is not until next Friday, which gives everyone here at ATD a chance to speculate and ponder the “best” and “worst” [...]
Hope for Chile and Marcelo Bielsa

Every team at the World Cup had their own tactical variation. According to FIFA’s report, most teams dabbled in 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2, with the odd 4-5-1 thrown into the mix on occassion. One team – Chile – eschewed most of those current en vogue formations in favor of a hybrid 3-3-1-3 formation that created a [...]
