Last week I asked you to take a look at the following achievements and records and to tell me the team, the coach, and the connection both have to Avoiding the Drop: National Achievements/Records #1 133 consecutive matches without a loss (1990-1997)- second place is only 103 matches. #1 10 consecutive state titles (1987-1996). #1 [...]

Fuse Muses: Brian McBride, WPS, the U.S. Open Cup and more…

Brian McBride announced his retirement (effective at the end of the season) this week. Is it just me or, as the years go by are American soccer fans going to come to appreciate him as much as the supporters at Craven Cottage already do? He will be missed in MLS and on the USMNT. Speaking [...]

Week 24 brought some surprising results to the Pick’Em. Los Angeles looked like the team they started out as while they beat Columbus 3-1. Chivas USA managed to put together 90 minutes to defeat the Revolution. And DC United pulled off a road win over Toronto. Our picks were just as surprising. Congrats to jjf3 [...]

“This is an unusual Scotland side because they have good players.” – Javier Clemente

Sunday means Newsy Notes because as usual, I have stuff to do. Some interesting results in the Premier League yesterday, Barcelona being whipped at the Camp Nou by a newly-promoted club, and some MLS shockers make for some interesting links today. Goldenballs returned last night for the Galaxy as they handled Columbus 3-1. One of [...]
“It was a very simple team talk. All I used to say was: ‘Whenever possible, give the ball to George’” – Sir Matt Busby

I was thinking of Sir Matt’s quote about George Best the other day during all this Wayne Rooney hullabaloo. Rooney’s skills as a footballer are top-notch and his approach to the game itself has really matured over the last few years, to the point now where the meltdown at Craven Cottage a few years back [...]

New England Revolution v. Chivas USA (Friday) Apparently the Revs are going to keep me in suspense for another few weeks. After writing off their playoff hopes several times in the last month, the Revs made things interesting by manhandling a streaking Seattle side last week and this week they play the worst team in [...]

I chose to profile a full kit this week because qualifying for Euro 2012 began recently and in just the first two matches I have been remind of just what Scotland is- and what it used to be. First, Scotland drew away to Lithuania and then beat Liechtenstein at home- in the 97th minute!! Now, [...]
