This is a difficult challenge so I’m going to give you a lot of information. Before I do that, however, I want to assure you of one thing: as obscure as the information I provide may make this team seem, please note the following;

This team won a major, international, senior-level, tournament that is still in existence.

• One player played professionally with- among others- Peterhead, Sheffield Wednesday, Dundee, Dunfermline Athletic, and Newcastle United.
• This same player scored a hat trick in the first match of the tournament.
• 2 players were born in the same town.
• 2 players died in the same town.
• The town in the previous two bullet points are the same one.
• 2 players on the team had the same last name, but one saw no action in the tournament.
• At least 2 players served in a World War.
• One player was brought into the team specifically to play in this tournament.
• The team scored 11 goals and gave up 0 during the tournament.
• An earlier edition of “The Thursday Challenge” contains a clue to this Challenge’s answer.
