What you missed while Bonnie the dog was hunting for rare jellyfish…
- Indian tycoon Ahasan Ali Syed has made inquiries into the purchase of Blackburn; he’s said to be looking at a price of around £300 million.
- Some dude from Syria wants to screw up Kenneth Huang’s Liverpool bid.
- Mark Hughes claims he would’ve taken Manchester City to fourth place had he not been sacked before Christmas.
- Villareal have signed defender Carlos Marchena to a three-year deal; Marchena had spent the last nine seasons at Valencia.
- Zenit St. Petersburg have signed Porto defender Bruno Alves for €22 million.
- Arjen Robben will miss up to two months because he’s injury prone with a thigh muscle injury.
- Everton will play Everton today in a historic friendly matchup between two clubs that have the same name.
- Marcelo Bielsa will remain Chile’s manager through 2015 (or until he starts to lose a bunch of games).
- Don Garber will remain as the commissioner of MLS through 2013.
- Copa Libertadores semifinal roundup (team in bold advances to the final): Universidad de Chile 0-2 Chivas Guadalajara. Chivas will play either Internacional or Sao Paolo in the final.
- CONCACAF Champions League roundup (teams in bold advance to the group stage): Cruz Azul 6-0 San Francisco, Isidro Metapán 1-1 Seattle, Motagua 2-2 Toronto.
Blackburn with money? That would be interesting. As long as it doesn’t go like L’Pool’s deal has, or the West Ham/Portsmouth debacles.
Mark Hughes apparently likes his morning coffee with something stronger than milk in it.
I’m really happy to see Chivas have done so well in that tourney. Their stance of fielding only Mexican born players made me a fan, especially with them sticking to it. It seems sort of quaint, but it proves you can win with full on homegrown talent in a bigger league. Best of luck to them in the finals.
Was I the only one, when the Garber extension was announced, was fully meh about it? It’s not like Selig or Bettman where I hate them and it’s not like Goodell where he’s done a hell of a job. Garber is just kind of there.
Damn it Mark Hughes! I really wanted to like Fulham, what with their history of signing Americans and Dempsey being there. Hodgson was the perfect manager for that side, and engendered no ill will even for a cross-London rival. However, I now find myself obligated to hate Fulham. There is no more comprehensive ass in all of football managing than the petulant Mark Hughes. On his presence alone, I say Fulham drop 4 places in the table this year. I fear for Deuce and hope he demands and is granted a transfer to somewhere with a manager who is actually in it for the development of the players and the club’s glory rather than his own. I never liked this move by Fulham, and it only took a few days for Hughes to confirm that he’s the same old prick he always was.
