What you missed while some guy in Colorado was taking awesome pictures of a bald eagle chasing a starling…
- UEFA Champions League roundup (teams in bold go through): Bordeaux 2-1 Olympiakos, Barcelona 4-0 Stuttgart.
- CONCACAF Champions League roundup (teams in bold go through): Pachuca 2-1 Comunicaciones of Guatemala, Toluca 3-2 Columbus, Cruz Azul 3-0 Araba Unido
- Roman Abramovich was reportedly furious with Carlo Ancelotti after being knocked out of the Champions League, and will likely sack him should Chelsea fail to win the Premier League.
- Jose Mourinho’s contract with Inter, incidentally, has a clause that allows him to leave whenever he wants.
- Chelsea will also probably throw a boatload of money at the problem; transfer targets include (but, of course, aren’t limited to) Fernando Torres, Franck Ribery, Sergio Aguero, Angel di Maria. Torres is the leading target at the moment; please don’t tell my wife that he might leave, because she’ll probably stop watching soccer without Torres around.
- In an interview he’s definitely going to claim was mistranslated, Albert Riera has said he’s thinking about moving from Liverpool to Russia in the summer.
- Landon Donovan may return to Everton if MLS goes on strike; in other news, David Moyes is rumored to have lent his full backing to MLS owners and thinks that free agency will be the death of the sport in America.
- Bobby Zamora is pretty sure he can outplay Fabio Cannavaro in Fulham’s Europa League clash against Juventus later today.
- Manchester United owners are considering raising ticket prices in order to help them manage their £700 million debt. I’m starting to agree with Barry Glendenning: if you really want the Glazers out, stop buying the tickets.
- Bayern Munich captain Mark van Bommel has extended his contract through 2011.
If Torres wants to win the CL why the hell would he go to Chelsea?
Soccernet is getting progressively worse with their rumors and “sources” being reported as facts. I think the only reason they rolled this story out is because their “Jose WILL be fired if they lose to Chelsea” story ended up being moot.
There’s definitely a bit of a disconnect in the two stories; in one he’s about to be fired, in the other one he’s sitting down and identifying potential transfer targets.
I can handle Torres leaving for Barcelona; leaving for Chelsea is unforgivable.
If Barca hadn’t blown their load on that massively overrated Swede that would be feasible. As it stands though, so sad too bad. Frankly I don’t get how they could even think of affording Cesc let alone Torres who should cost twice as much.
This just in: Lionel Messi is a better than average soccer player.
This one is for Mags. Not Killer Jellyfish, but an decent fan video for the Gorillaz:
Love the lightcycle avatar.
This song has been irritating me for about two weeks, actually; it keeps coming up in my “Google News” searches for jellyfish.
Just an update: we’ve now joined the rest of the world and updated for Daylight Savings Time. Why WordPress doesn’t do this automatically is beyond me, but it’s fixed. Yay!
