The Last Days of Pompey?
February 26, 2010 by Fuse
One of the things that separates a “good” website from a “bad” website is being careful not to overestimate the scope of your ability or expertise. One of our jobs here is to keep you informed on the “goings on” in the world of football. Another is to give you our opinions on these happenings. However, there is another job we have that is just as important, and that is to point you in the direction of people who can do a better job than we can on a given subject. I have no doubt that any of the four of us could do a decent job of explaining the entrance of Portsmouth F.C. into “administration” to you, but around here “decent” isn’t good enough when it comes to a subject like this. With that in mind we’d like two point you in the direction of two excellent explanations of the process so that, as the EPL season winds down and the summer break begins, you’ll be able to have a better idea of where Portsmouth F.C. stands- are they on the comeback trail, or are they one step closer to liquidation?
For a “nuts and bolts” look at the purely financial aspects of administration, there is Gerald Krasner’s excellent piece. Mr. Krasner and his firm deal with administration in all areas of business, but they have also been involved with previous football teams that have found themselves in serious financial difficulty, most recently Southampton and Scarborough.
For a more football-oriented and Portsmouth F.C. specific read you can look at Matt Slater’s blog post which is a bit less clinical, a bit more skeptical, and which suggests- to nobody’s surprise I suspect- that the worst of the problems at Fratton Park, financial and otherwise, have yet to become public knowledge.
Happy reading and if you’re a Portsmouth fan, good luck in the Championship next year…you hope.
