Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated reported today on Twitter that Fox Soccer Channel will begin to be shown in high definition on both major satellite services (DirecTV and Dish Network) as of Wednesday February 10. According to his source, there is nothing new to report with the major cable players, so your best bet there is to stay in contact with the various customer service departments and make sure to be nice about it. Let’s not be hooligans, shall we?
UPDATE: False on DirecTV. COME ON ALREADY!
OK, so I just called Cox here in Vegas and no one locally even knows that I should be getting FSC in HD. I couldn’t even find someone in the phone system to register my request for Cox to start carrying FSC in HD. Maybe its time to start shopping for a satelite……
Verizon Fios in the DC Metro area (okay, Maryland) hadn’t heard anything about FSC being broadcast in HD when I called. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even know they carried a channel called FSC. Asshats.
So after digging on Cox’s website I was able to send an e-mail. Here is what I wrote.
“Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to let you know that as a long time Cox customer, I am expecting an announcement soon on when Cox will be switching my standard definition Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) broadcast to their new high definition broadcasts. I am aware that the satellite providers have already reached an agreement and will begin carrying the HD signal on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. I am expecting that Cox will be broadcasting FSC in HD within a week of this date.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Any thoughts? Not clear enough? Too hooligan?
Not hooligan enough. You should have mentioned the band of angry soccer fans brandishing pitchforks you’ll be bringing to Cox headquarters if you don’t get it soon.
Perfectly passive aggressive. Exactly what I would expect from a fellow Spurs fan.
If cable providers aren’t even aware of the channel’s existence, than that’s honestly on FSC to fix. They need to promote their offerings. I’d imagine that underneath the management/office level, cable providers know very, very little about the specifics of each channel or it’s availability; FSC has to start presenting and selling their service before fans start asking for it.
I’d agree. I don’t know the level of promotion FSC did for this, but if it wasn’t more than a press release and a couple of calls then they failed in that respect.
What they should have done is pushed DirecTV, Dish, Comcast, etc real hard to carry the HD feed so that when the switch happened a lot of people had it. I don’t think anyone even has the HD feed yet, but FSC keeps talking about how they’re in HD which is only pissing people off.
Grant Wahl reneged on the DirectTV statement (http://twitter.com/Grantwahl). Only DISH on Wednesday.
I contacted Comcast a couple weeks ago. Whomever I was chatting with on their live tech support wrote in perfect Engrish. Anyway, they said “we’re working on it”. So I expect to see it in HD in time for the World Cup … when the US is hosting.
Here’s the response I got from Cox Las Vegas:
“At this time, there are no plans to carry this channel in the Las Vegas market. However, we are always evaluating our line-up in an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and bring the best value to our subscribers.”
I guess I’ll have to look at the satellites now…
