I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, here are the answers to the holiday edition of the Thursday Challenge:
John Gregory: Manager of Maccabi Ahi Nazareth. Nazareth was the childhood home of Jesus.
A club that plays in the Kiribati National Championship: Christmas F.C., from Christmas Island. I think this one is pretty much self-explanatory.
Photo: The team in question is FC Bethlehem BE of the Swiss 3. Liga Starkeklasse – Gruppe 2. Bethlehem was also the birthplace of Jesus. It’s also the name of a dying dead steel city in Eastern Pennsylvania where I wasted two year of my life.
2nd Battalion The Royal Welch Fusiliers v. 134th Saxon Infantry Regiment: These were the two military groups which took part in a “match” on Christmas Day 1914. Fighting stopped and the men on both sides ate, drank, sang, played music, and had a kick-about. It became known as the “Christmas Truce.” It was also featured in a film that was mentioned in one of my first posts (last review in the list) here on the site.
Tipperary, Chard, Chipping Sodbury, and Nuneaton: All field teams called “St. Nicholas F.C.” Again, self-explanatory.
Their home ground is Eaton Park, Norwich: They are Reindeer F.C., representing the nearby Reindeer Ale House. Santa, sleigh, Donner, Blitzen, you get the idea.
Congratulations to Andrew B. who missed only the picture and Andrew M. who missed only the last question.
See you tomorrow with the new challenge…
The lesson here: if you ever want to stump me, make your challenges picture-based. Those never cease to make me spend 3 days looking for information on them.
I’m late with these. I always think that I should turn them in Wednesday, not that the answers are revealed on Wednesday. I just sent in my answers. Pinky swear I knew all of them but the last one.
Well…if I’m in a good mood when I get home from indoor tonight maybe I’ll update the post and include your answers- maybe.
Thanks for the shout-out. That’s quite kind of you.
