One of the best things- seriously!- about doing these challenges is that I learn something every time from the answers people submit. This week I learned that were many correct answers to several of the questions I asked and that I worded the last question rather poorly- more on that after the jump.
What club has never been relegated in a history that has spanned more than a century?
Blyth Spartans A.F.C.
What club has played in two leagues, in two different countries, and never been relegated in either one?
Derry City F.C.
Which English club has played an F.A. Cup “tie” in each of the Home Countries (England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland)?
Nottingham Forest F.C.
What was the only non-English team to hold (jointly with Aston Villa) what is now known as the “F.A. Community Shield?”
Queen’s Park F.C. (Scotland) in 1899.
How many different English clubs have won the Welsh Cup?
What I meant, was how many Welsh Cups have been one by English clubs, and the answer to that was 15- or it least I thought it was. I actually depends on how one defines “English”- playing in an English league, actually being based in England, etc.. Of course, that’s not what the questions says, is it? Thus, full credit to all of those who answered the question as I actually wrote it.
So, let’s recognize those who made the effort despite my poorly worded questions:
- WSR: all right, all the time.
- Alejandro: a new entrant who nailed them all and understood what I meant in the last question.
- Andrew B.: a regular who got them all and who is a very, ah, “thorough” researcher.
- Jeff P.: who got them all and made me realize the error(s) of my ways.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the previously advertised hardest challenge yet. But remember, there will be a “virtual” reward for those who send in their answers!
