That’s one hell of a job done by Everton. I would give my kidney to see how exactly they created that loss. They’ve got to have some damn good accountants.
The article claims that a good chunk of that is due to an increase in player wages, which makes some sense. Ironically, a book I’m reading at the moment (“Soccernomics”) claims that there’s a direct relationship between player wages and team performance; they claim the wage market is something like 92% efficient. Interestingly, there’s no correlation at all between transfer fees, turnover, or profits and team performance.
That said, Everton and Manchester City seem to be two major exceptions to that rule so far this season.
