What happened around the sporting world since last I left you? Dick Jauron is out in Buffalo, Zack Greinke won the AL Cy Young award, Dwayne Bowe was suspended four games for violating the Substance Abuse policy and Jameer Nelson is out 4 to 6 weeks with surgery. Kind of a busy day, no? ESPN is running a 24 hour marathon of college basketball, so that’s been fun. There are World Cup Qualifiers and International Friendlies tomorrow and all of us footy fanatics are praying for no more major injuries for our club’s players.
The college basketball looks to be really decent tonight on ESPN, capped off by a Gonzaga-Michigan State matchup on the Mothership at 8:00 PM EST, followed by the #1 Kansas Jayhawks visiting Memphis at 10:00 PM. Both should be cracking. NBA Network has Golden State visiting the LeBrons at 7:oo PM. If you’re interested in some South American club footy, Fox Sports Español has the second leg of one of the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana (essentially the South American equivalent of the Euro Champions League) between Cerro Porteño of Paraguay taking on Fluminense of Brazil at 7:00 PM. For the foodies, a Rachael Ray Thanksgiving special on Food Network at 8:00 PM. For the history buffs, WWII in HD is on History Channel at 8:00 PM. It’s a full rich night.
So here’s the deal. Hang out here. Do NOT feel like you have to talk footy, as you know that myself, Fuse, Adam and Mags are diverse and brilliant people who can talk about any subject whatsoever. Especially Fuse. A secret about Fuse, actually, is that in real life he’s Ken Jennings, Jeopardy zillionaire and all-round brilliant SOB. Give full respect please.

how abut this saturday? I’m a foodie too. I’m actually (sort of) looking forward to turkey day this year – we convinced my MIL to let US do the cooking, and she can stay out of the kitchen. Which means, basically, that Thanksgiving dinner will be GOOD this year. *huzzah*
Yeah, my sister wants to cook, and I’m not so much into that one. She barely cooks for her kids.
Otherwise, Dad and I will be outside with steel pots. Why? Deep frying turkeys.

@TY: Awesome idea regarding a foodie/recipe fest for Saturday’s Last Call. We can definitely start publicizing it; if anyone here has recipes to share it gives us a few days to type them up or upload them on the web for linkage.
Agreed. I think it really can be “share any recipe you want to share” but we can also make sure that people know that “alt-traditional” type recipes related to Thanksgiving would be appreciated, considering we may have some guests.
I would love a recipe for a really good IPA.

2-0! This one was a little easier. Anyone else watching Michigan State/Gonzaga? This is one of a few games that makes a Big 11 team tolerable. It’s Tuesday night so there can’t possibly be much else on.
Not impressed by Michigan State. Or am I more impressed with another underrated Gonzaga team?

This of course comes after i said on my show that the Big 11 was overrated as usual and Michigan State was a great team and Purdue was decent. Some people in the media are ridiculous. 9 tourney teams in a 11 team conference? Not Possible.
I don’t think they’re very good basketball conference this year actually.
Michigan State should be a top 10 team, but Purdue is sketchy. Ohio State is underrated though.
4-6, then 7-9 could be any combination though.
If the conference gets more than 6 teams in (MSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan, OSU and Minnesota) i’d be shocked. Like i have no idea how these experts expect teams like Penn State, Indiana and Northwestern to get the kind of out of conference wins they need. I’m sure they’ll get credit for beating each other up just like last year.
Part of it is because CUSA is weaker this year with Memphis a giant ??, and the mid-majors really need to sort themselves out. The Horizon looks to be good again, but the MVC and OVC are expected to be down this year.
Really, it’s just a case of nobody can predict which mid-major conference is going to have more than 2 good teams, so the bottom of the brackets will come from the big conferences this year. See also Syracuse, Marquette and even Pitt. It’s a good year to be “rebuilding” like those programs are, because they’ll still get at large bids by competing in the tough conferences.
Yeah i think the A-10 gets 3. MAAC gets 2 Siena and Niagra. WCC will probably get more than just Gonzaga and the Mountain West gets 3 or 4.
I just think that the “experts” are dead wrong. UConn (and L’ville for that matter) loses their 3 “best” players (just as we did). Yet their considered the 13th best team and we’re the 38th. ‘Cuse and Marquette are much worse than last year. G-town didn’t go from a CBI team to the 20th ranked team. Some of these teams are plain over-rated. There is going to be a ton of parity from 3-10 in the big east. Should be a great year. Although I would have preferred if a certain All-American had come back. Then we’d be up there with WVU and whoever the 3rd best team may be.
