Last week’s challenge was, of course, to find twelve football “apostles” to sit at the table for a very special Last Supper. Or, to put it a bit more simply, find twelve football teams named after saints. Here are the ones I had in mind:
St. Mirren of Benchor (St. Mirren F.C., Scotland)
St. John the Baptist (St. Johnstone F.C., Scotland)
St. Patrick (St. Patrick’s Athletic F.C., Ireland)
St. Andrew the Apostle (E.C. Santo Andre, Brazil)
St. Paul of Tarsus (Sao Paulo F.C., Brazil)
St. Germain of Paris (PSG F.C., France)
St. Trudo the Apostle of Hesbaye (K. Sint-Truidense V.V., Belgium)
St. Lawrence of Rome (C.A. San Lorenzo, Argentina)
St. Charles (C.A. Atenas de San Carlos, Uruguay)
St. Gall (F.C. St. Gallen, Switzerland)
St. Louis of Toulouse (San Luis F.C., Mexico)
St. George (St. George’s F.C., Malta)
Again there was only one winner and it was the ever-popular Green Eggs & Fulham! To his credit, he came up with many more saints than required. Unfortunately, space is limited, so a great many of them will have to sit at the kid’s table.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a new challenge…
Congrats GEF! I got about four.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t get all of them, but I found a boatload in Africa and the West Indies – and maybe that put me over the top. I did get 8 of the 12 they have on their list though.
