This weekend is a true blessing for the MLS. The English Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A all grind their league machinery to a halt in observance of an “international weekend”. The MLS, in true American form, doesn’t care about your “interlulls” or your “World Cups”, however; they play through that. Who does Sepp Blatter think he is, anyways? Doesn’t he know we’re INDEPENDENT?
So while everyone’s taking a break for international games that you probably don’t care about, the MLS is poised to come in and give the world their soccer fix. That’s right, folks; there’s a FULL SLATE OF GA-
What? There’re only three games this weekend? Oh. Well, um…hope you like Toronto-Colorado! Your results for last week are after the jump.
The biggest shockers, based on the fact that nobody predicted their outcomes, were DC United’s win over Chicago and New York’s win over Columbus. Outside of that, Seattle drawing with Toronto and Real Salt Lake smacking down Chivas USA 4-0 were also pretty surprising. Just about everyone figured out that New England would beat San Jose; the best case anyone saw for San Jose was a draw in that one, and we were right. This week’s points:
Two Yellows: 4
thefuseproject: 4
Magnakai Haaskivi: 3
Kevin: 3
Green Eggs: 3
Bluesfan: 2
jjf3: 2
jhawk90: 2
Adam: 1
And your accumulated totals:
Two Yellows: 81
jjf3: 71
Magnakai Haaskivi: 66
Bluesfan: 65
Adam: 62
thefuseproject: 61
jhawk90: 60
Kevin: 49
Andrew Buchholz: 42
Green Eggs and Fulham: 21
Sculptor: 20
James Brown: 14
Ken: 7
Rob: 6
geovanny: 4
This week’s ticket is seriously only three games. That’s completely ridiculous, because you’re ultimately punishing certain teams (i.e., the Galaxy) less than other teams (i.e., the Rapids) for having international players. I mean, seriously; the Galaxy almost never plays on international weekends, so they don’t have to play games without Landon Donovan. Meanwhile, the Rapids have to play without Conor Casey; while he sucks for the U.S. National Team, he’s fairly important to the Rapids attack. Bottom line: if you’re going to insist on playing through international games, everyone plays. Period.
Here’re the games for the week; remember, we’re doing the picks in the comments now.
