I wonder if Alvarez was ever courted by the senior US team or not. To be fair I'm not entirely familiar with Alvarez, but this one doesn't seem to hurt as much as say Ibisevic or Subotic.

Ibisevic scored 18 goals in 22 appearances for his PDL team. You'd think the USSF would be paying attention to those kind of things and realize that he had dual citizenship and try to get him a to play for the national team.

Subotic is similar except almost a little bit worse since he was playing for the US youth squads and should have been pursued more heavily. Though Serbia does have a good squad so you almost can't blame him.

You can't blame Rossi either, I'd rather play for a team that's going to be a constant favorite for the World Cup. Though he is fun (and easy) to make fun of, partially because if he wasn't a world class player he looks like he'd probably spend his summer on the Jersey Shore getting a serious spray tan.

I kind of get it with Rossi, though. Playing for Italy has more opportunities than playing for the U.S., and he really always wanted to play for them anyways. But if you're going to do that switch-off, you should always make sure you're switching to a team that's better than your other option; the U.S. is probably going to qualify for the next World Cup, while El Salvador probably won't. That's trading down.
