Tomorrow, the first leg of the Champions League’s playoff round kicks off. This round is the last round before the group stages, and each tie’s winners will get into a group. In the past, this hasn’t been a televised affair; Fox, however, is going to bring it to you.
Unfortunately, they’re not going to bring it to you terribly efficiently. First, your ever-so-convenient ESPN360 feeds are gone; that should have been obvious when ESPN lost the rights, but the fact that you may be forced towards other less legal alternative methods may just be dawning on you.
You’ll also probably be DVRing these games. Courtesy of ChampionsLeagueTalk (these “talk” sites all have the same format, and it kind of drives me crazy), the Fox TV schedule follows the jump.
Tuesday, August 18th (2:45 PM EST)
- FC Sheriff v Olympiakos, Fox Soccer Channel
- Celtic v Arsenal, FSN
- Timisoara v Stuttgart, Fox Sports en Espanol
Wednesday, August 19th (2:45 PM EST):
- Olympique Lyonnais v Anderlecht, Fox Soccer Channel
- Panathinaikos v Atletico Madrid, Fox Sports en Espanol
Tuesday, August 25th (2:45 EST):
- Maccabi Haifa v Salzburg, Fox Soccer Channel
- Atletico Madrid v Panathinaikos, FSN and Fox Sports en Espanol
Wednesday, August 26th (2:45 PM EST):
- Arsenal v Celtic, Fox Soccer Channel
- Fiorentina v Sporting, Fox Sports en Espanol
Some of these will also be rebroadcast on Fox Soccer later on in the day (Celtic-Arsenal will be shown at 5:00, I believe). And if you’re paying attention, you’ll notive that only one leg of a couple ties is being shown; that kind of doesn’t make any sense, but maybe some of these are being replayed later on to cover the gaps.
Also: I’m not sure if the games ON Fox Sports en Espanol are actually en espanol. We’ll find out tomorrow, I guess. I’m guessing English, but I’ve been wrong before.
So consider this your reminder: Set your DVRs tonight if you planned on watching any of these tomorrow night!
So by FSN it means that all the regional FSN’s will carry the games? because that can only be great exposure for the sport, plus FSRM comes in HD at times here, so hopefully these will be in HD.
I think so, yeah. I kinda pounded this out before leaving work, so I didn’t go and check any actual Fox listings, but this jives with what I saw advertised on FSC all weekend.
Yeah just checked my listings, I can watch it on 10+ channels in theory. I was mad last night looking through my listings and saw that fsc had arsenal at 3 instead of 1230 but I didn’t check any of the fsn’s
According to this here ad, http://msn.foxsports.com/id/8569135 , all the games will be streamed live free online. Will it work? Who knows.
nevermind, i take it back. not free. damn.
I saw the 1st ad Saturday morning and programed the DVR right away. I can’t even think of when the last time Olympiakos was on my TV. I’m just disappointed that they’re not going to have Stuttgart on FSC/FSN, since I don’t get to see much of ze Germans pretty much ever.
Well slap my ass and call me Mark Hughes.
