Well, it’s been a day, hasn’t it? I don’t know about the rest of you, but that match wore me out. But, we’re through half the week now, and we turn our attention to the NFL preseason which starts in earnest tomorrow night, and weekend baseball. The English Premier League kicks off Saturday morning, but apparently, it’s still in doubt as to whether or not ESPN will get to show the early match, Chelsea v. Hull City. We’ll keep that situation up to date, and I’ll have the full sked on Saturday, obviously.
Look, let’s face it. The US is never really going to get any refereeing help outside of our borders. That’s a fact. The refs swallow their whistles and try to let the players sort it out. So you get what we got this afternoon. I could write a book about Bob Bradley’s tactics and substitution patterns and his insistence that you can get away with dumping the ball out and defending for minutes on end. Nevertheless, it’s over, we need to move on and hope for better results in Utah in September.

Well, it’s an adapted muffin recipe, and I baked it in a 9″ square pan.

It’s better if you use brown sugar for the topping, but i didn’t feel like digging it out.
The adaptation is to use 1/3c sailor jerry (or other navy rum instead of the milk. Thin the batter if necessary with the mil (I owund up adding in about 2 Tablespoons.
Also, to the batter add 1/4t nutmeg and 1/4t allspice.

Well, yes and no. The whole situation is very sad for the children and families of Pitino and Sypher. And I have an interest in basketball staying big in KY. Pitino did a lot to raise UL’s stock, even though the way he left UK sucked.
I am relieved this did not happen at UK. I guess it’s more of a bullet dodged feeling than anything else.

The best thing to do is not to BS him or her. Let them know that you’re not going to judge. And now that you know about the case, and heard Pitino’s conference. You have good points to go with.
Ask about the money, the “medical” bill, Pitino’s demeanor, etc.
In other words, keep to the facts that we do know. They probably want to add their version or confirm one or the other’s side…
You will get nervous, no doubt. But stay firm, stick to the story. Make sure you’re at ease, because if you’re not, they won’t be, either.
I wonder what Sypher was trying to accomplish through her extortion attempt. If she (allegedly) got 3k from Pitino for an abortion, and had already filed a rape complaint with police, then why would she want to extort him? I know the money was probably the only reason, but it seems too risky for someone to ask for more in a situation like this. Will Pitino take the stand and go against Sypher in the court case?
She got 3K from Pitino, the “allegedly” belongs with the abortion part. His lawyer is saying that Pitino gave her the money for medical bills/insurance.
Also, she did not file a complaint with the police until July, about 3 months after the extortion charges were brought to light. Her lawyers said that her filing charges seemed very much like retaliation to the extortion charges.
I suppose the abortion accusation will be looked at in court. I do want SP to ask the Pitino friend/relative about Pitino’s plans for the case.
Still, why would she try and extort him? If it was just for the money then that’s pretty stupid of her.
Well, I don’t see why the abortion thing would be looked at in court. The only case that will be tried will be the extortion case. The Louisville PD decided that there wasn’t enough to go on to charge Pitino with any sort of crime. He is completely in the clear, as far as the law is concerned.
I assume she extorted him because her marriage was ending, she had children, and she wanted to get money/tuition. This isn’t based on anything official, by the way, just rumors. She thought that the affair+abortion would be enough to keep Pitino paying, but Pitino called her on it and went to the courts.
This could have ruined Pitino even worse than it already has since his contract includes a morality clause, so I guess I can see why, when put in a bad situation, she tried her luck. The whole thing is still dumb.
I think this is just another crazy bitch looking for money, like Ben’s accuser. 6 years?

According to a few different Twitters I saw this afternoon, apparently ESPN is “negotiating” with Fox Soccer Channel (whatever that means, I honestly don’t know). So we may not know until last minute what the deal is with Chelsea/Hull City on Saturday morning. It’s not scheduled on any TV listings I can find right now, so hopefully the next two days will bring some closure and answers to it. I do know that FSC is scheduled to show Aston Villa/Wigan and Everton/Arsenal, and Setanta USA has Blackburn/Man Citeh.

Watching the interviews from after the soccer match…. did the location of the match make that much of a difference? Or is it more of an excuse?
Up 7000 feet, 3 o’clock in a smoggy afternoon, 114,000 people booing you. It makes a difference.
No, it does, it’s 7000 feet above sea level, usually smoggy, and nobody has beaten Mexico there since 2001. So it is tough to play there, but to say that Mexico got some insane advantage from it is kinda questionable.

I am indeed. It’s been quite the game. Great pitching by Buehrle and Hernandez, and plenty of impressive defensive plays as well.
Plus, Griffey wins it with a pinch-hit drive off the wall in right. Perfect way to end it (for the Mariners, not the Sox).
Helluva game.
Course I wish we could’ve won but I grew up admiring Junior from afar. The only non-Sox player I find it impossible to root against.
