Fresh off the news that only THREE people turned up for the release of the oft-maligned new yellow-striped away kit, Newcastle United’s full strength team was thoroughly whipped by League One side Leyton Orient 6-1 in a friendly today.
The starting lineup included Habib Beye, Stephen Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Jonas Gutierez, Joey Barton, Alan Smith, Damien Duff, Kevin Nolan and Oba Martens. If those names look familiar to you, it’s because that’s most of the desired starting lineup for last year’s Premier League version of the Magpies. Barton was the goal scorer today for the black and white, but it can hardly be looked upon as a positive sign.
With the news filtering out that Alan Shearer is still clinging to hope that he can be the fulltime gaffer at Newcastle, and with no end in sight to the endless “will the club be sold” speculation, one wonders what more can happen to the St. James faithful.
