I felt a great disturbance in the Force.
Just a few weeks after his agents put out a 32 page brochure detailing his exploits and readiness to play, Michael Owen has been signed by the 3-time defending Premier League champions, Manchester United.
Right.
Read that again.
Michael Owen, 29 year old former England international, veteran of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle (who he failed to help escape relegation this past season) has joined the mighty Red Devils on a two-year deal. This is quite a response to losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. Owen apparently passed a medical and signed on the dotted line.
Word is that Fergie’s next big signing will be Dean Windass, stay tuned.
Heh heh. You said “Windass.”
Hey, SAF found his contingency plan for not getting Benzema.
*facepalm*
So I’m supposed to assume this is bad, right?
Michael Owen lives on a rep he earned quite some time ago, and hasn’t backed up for a long time now. He was fantastic at Liverpool, average at Madrid, invisible (mostly) for Newcastle, and now goes to United? It’s just a bit odd, that’s all, a bit unlike Fergie’s usual power moves in transfer and indicative of just how much the power base has shifted from England to Spain this offseason.
The FA Cup final he beat Arsenal at was on a few months ago, and holy crap was he amazing.
But his contract is good for United as I understand it. He doesn’t play or score, he’s not really getting paid.
Woooooooooowwww. This is a lot different setup, but me likey so far…
No clue how it happened, but El Salvador is currently up 1-0 at the half on Costa Rica in the “group of death” (after Canada was able to beat Jamaica 1-0) which, should it hold, would make the next two games for all 4 teams muchos importante, hoser, eh…followed by a drag on a roach with reggaeton in the background…
then again, that equalizer was a long time coming…
yes, I’m down to watching the Gold Cup on Telefutura over watching the Giants treat my Astros like a red-headed runt of a step-child with an abusive, alcoholic father…
and, yes, I need a life…
For the sake of following the rest of this meaningless tournament:
C’mon El Salvador!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UP the whatever-you-call-yourselves!!!!!!
Holy shit, the Groupa de Muerte just got even more deadly…El Salvador 2-1 over Costa Rica (los ticos?) with less than 5 minutes to go….awesome…
It’s a JJF3 Liveblog!!!
and you foolishly left me out of your expansive world-domination plans!!!
HA!
RE; diminutive Michael Owen: Why the fuck not? He’s on a make-good contract loaded with incentives based on games and goals, and SAF expects him to show up in maybe 20 games. He’s got Rooney, Boobatov, Macheda and Welbeck (and never forget O’Shea in a pinch!), and he needs someone to be the “third man” – a role Tevez was never comfortable with…yes, he can’t push Ronaldo up the field anymore, but does ManU really need to normally? He’s got a month to find anyone else who can fill that same role, even if Benzema’s been “stolen” from him…I suspect Nani and Anderson start to get their shit together next year, and this all comes to wasted energy on a dead topic…
Owen will score goals for ManU while SAF laughs at the league. And if he doesn’t, it didn’t cost him more than a cent, did it???
G-d, I’m drunk…
At least the Vieri-Blackburn story HAS to be complete BUNK/BULLSHIT….right???
It must suck to be Manchester United, with 80 million pounds to spend and all your best targets getting bought up. Somehow, I’m just not seeing Owen and Valencia being the replacements for Tevez and Ronaldo.
I’m a drunk sob
but I don’t really see the problem…SAF (Anti-Christ that he is) has always worked to make sure that ManUre is a well-oiled machine: I would not be surprised to see Nani become the next Ronaldo, or da Silva the next Neville.
Or Anderson suddenly become the best-scoring d-mid in the EPL. Why? Just because…
Shit, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rooney and Berbs hit 40….
this is just how it works under SAF….
sleep is calling….adios….
Good on the Fightin’ Bucholtzs with their 1-0 thrashing of the Reggae Boys tonight – hopefully they can muster a repeat of 2007 and get knocked out by USMNT again…I kid. But only a little bit.
i think the move will resurrect his career. he’ll actually get some decent service now and it’s a world cup year. vote on it here:http://thebleacherbums.wordpress.com/2009/07/04/michael-owen-to-united-has-fergie-finally-lost-it/
