When I’m looking for something to write about, one of my first stops is the complete schedule of games being played on whatever given day I’m having issues. Usually, you’ll find that there’s something happening somewhere, and you’ll be able to find a way to milk something out of that. Sometimes a quirky story will spring up, or I’ll be jarred into remembering something that I’d read. The creative process isn’t glamorous, but it’s the price we all pay for art.
I’m only mentioning that so that you know what happens when I can’t come up with something to write. Today, obviously, isn’t one of those days.
Why’s that? Because today, the UEFA Champions League kicked off.
That’s right, folks! Almost exactly a month after that stunning 2-0 Barcelona win, the quest to unseat them has started. Just like any plot to overthrow a superpower, it started small; in fact, UEFA didn’t even publish a minute-by-minute report on this particular game. At 18:30 CET (I’m not so hot on my time-zone translations, but I think that means that the game started at 12:30 EST, which means I could probably still watch the second half if it were being streamed), Hibernians FC (the Maltese one, not the Scottish one) kicked off against Montenegrin side FK Mogren in Malta’s Ta’Qali Centenary stadium to start round one of the 2009-10 version of the Champions League.
Right now, FK Mogren is leading 1-0 on a 32′ Marko Cetkovic strike. This is a two-legged tie; the two teams will go back to Montenegro next Wednesday to see who goes on to face Denmark’s FC Copenhagen in the second round, which will take place on either July 14th or 15th. Tomorrow, the second game (of two) from the first round kicks off at 20:30 CET (again, I think that means 2:30 EST, but I’m not sure and you can’t watch it anyways), with San Marino champions Tre Fiori hosting Andorran side UE Sant Julia.
Haha, I opened the site and thought that a whole bunch of posts had disappeared or that something from the archives got bumped way up.
You mean you FORGOT about this game? Heathens, all of you!
No, I had a 5,000 word preview of this match written up, I just had forgotten to post it.
I thought he was just going to ‘live’ blog last year’s tournament over the course of a week or two.
No link to they hymn? Monsters, all of you.
Two requests please:
1) resource so that I can include this info in the TPP schedule, and
2) either put you four back up on the side bar, or stick an author label in your work. More convenient when I want to nit-pick or give attaboys – I wanna know to whom I’m sending my love!
1. soccernet.espn.go.com has a schedule of most every game on the front page. However, something like this match is of little import so it wouldn’t really need to be included in the schedule. Nothing important to people who don’t live in small eastern European countries really happens till mid August.
2. I don’t know where that went, hmm…
Not sure where it went, but I put it back up. That’s happened before; I think it’s a WordPress hiccup.
