Avoiding the Drop

For the next couple of weeks, you’re not going to be seeing a lot of Chicago, Chivas, New England, or Toronto around here. That’s right: four of the most interesting teams in the league will be out on the road, competing in the North American SuperLiga.

For New England in particular, that spells “fixture congestion”. We’re in week 14 of the league, but so far New England have only played twelve games. This SuperLiga stretch means that their next game for MLS league play won’t be until July 4th; by that time, they could have as many as six games in hand.

The Revs are at least getting points out of the games they’re playing, though. The same cannot be said for the New York Red Bulls, who have amassed a whopping nine points out of their fifteen games. They also have yet to score on the road; this week sees the return leg of the season opener, and I just can’t see that as being pretty.
