Tapas and sangria for all!
This Summer transfer period just got really interesting.
According to all the main English journos, Manchester United have accepted a bid of £80 Million as the transfer fee from Real Madrid. Madrid will now be able to “negotiate” with Ronaldo, but this seems like it should be a formality. United expect the transfer to be complete by 30 June.
As everyone knows, Madrid completed the signing of Kaka from AC Milan for a reported £59 Million earlier this week, so Florentino Perez is having a good month. As the world economy still lurches and staggers along, the second-place finishers in La Primera Liga certainly are flush with cash to spend. With treble-winning Barcelona having not made a move yet in transfer other than releasing Sylvinho, the advantage clearly lies with the Madridistas.
nice one but i have a different take

I’m glad Ronaldo’s going to a club I already didn’t like.
Well fuck. That’s an interesting news to start the day.
Well fuck. It was gonna happen sometime. I’m just glad it’s finally fucking over.
And can we finally sign Tevez now?
Well, they can’t say they won’t have the money to sign Tevez now, that’s for sure. It’s whether or not they think he’s worth 25 million, and whether or not he’s burned his bridges too badly with Fergie.
I think the issue with Tevez was always that they didn’t think he was worth the money, not the availability of said money. And based on that, I’d imagine that they’re still not interested; the money’s still the money, and just because United have more of it doesn’t mean their valuation of the player’s changed.
That’s an excellent point. But if they don’t think Tevez is worth 25 mil, then I’m confused. To me, he’s a great player that scores goals and creates goals. I don’t know what else they want from him.
Well, presumably, more goals. Tevez scored 5 goals in 29 league appearances; that’s by far the worst number among United’s strikers, and his appearances aren’t that much lower. Berbatov-presumably the one who’s replacing him-had 9 goals in 31 matches, while Rooney had 12 goals in 30.
From what I’ve seen of Tevez, he’s a hard-working player who doesn’t create the end results consistently. The stats favor Berbatov, who not only scored more but assisted more (10 against Tevez’s 3). Berbatov doesn’t run like the bastard sun of Ji-Sung Park and Dirk Kuyt, but he was responsible for 19 goals; Tevez isn’t even into double figures when you put those two stats together.
Well, his first season with Man Utd he had 14 goals and 7 assists in 34 premier league games. Tevez has been upset since we brought in Berbatov. He had 13 less starts. I tend to think that had a negative effect on his training/playing this season.
I just think that the combination of Rooney/Tevez/Berbatov on the pitch at the same time scores a lot of goals for us.
Also, comparing his appearances and Berbatov’s appearances isn’t really an apples-to-apples kind of thing; Tevez comes on as a sub for twenty minutes sometimes, while Berbatov has more full games. It’s harder to come in to an already established game and find your place, which could also be reflected in his stats.
I don’t know; I can’t help but thinking that Manchester United has a really good history of letting players go at the right time. They’ve got excellent talent evaluation, consistent management, and the resources to lock Tevez up; if they aren’t bringing him back, I’d imagine there’s a reason, and his performance this year might be part of that.
One of the Ronaldo articles mentioned that Fergie’s drifted away from last year’s 4-3-3 in favor of a 4-2-3-1 a lot towards the end of the year, and the piece speculated that was in preparation for Ronaldo’s departure. A 4-2-3-1 has no room for Tevez with your current squad; he wouldn’t be the lone striker and probably wouldn’t be a winger.
