It’s funny how, if you’re patient, things eventually sort themselves out. Sure, there are still a few teams that are a bit better than you might have expected, and a few that are a bit worse, but as the first third of the season approaches, things are about where you’d expect them to be.
Thefuseproject’s Week 10 Power Rankings
1. Chivas USA: Still a no-brainer. The best team in the league by far.
2. Seattle Sounders F.C.: I give them the nod over Chicago or D.C. for having a MUCH better defense.
3. Chicago Fire S.C.: I should be more impressed by “no losses,” but I’m not. No more ties!!
4. D.C. United: The defense still needs work, but they are on the upswing as a club.
5. Kansas City Wizards: This one surprises me a bit, but they keep piling up the points…
6. Toronto F.C.: Again, as the season progresses they begin to fall back into the pack where they should be.
7. Houston Dynamo: I don’t know if this is as high as they will rise, but this is more like it.
7. Colorado Rapids: Good home team + bad away team = mediocre team.
9. New England Revolution: They keep grabbing points despite the injuries- still with two games in hand.
10. Real Salt Lake: They gave their fans hope for a month or so, but the slide back has begun.
11. L.A. Galaxy: I don’t want to hear about the unbeaten streak- it includes ONE win!!*
12. New York Red Bulls: Too bad- for them- that they’re not in the Western Conference- they’d be average.
13. Columbus Crew: I don’t think “repeating” is likely when you’re on a 1 point/match pace.
15. F.C. Dallas: The most losses in MLS and they’ve played a match less than many teams. Ugh.
15. San Jose Earthquakes: A win could send them rocketing by Dallas to become the second worst team in MLS!
*If you want to talk about unbeaten streaks, how about the longest one in American high school soccer history? From 1990 to 1997 the Golden Eagles of Gilford High School, in Gilford, NH went 129-0-4.
Follow-up riddle: What has two thumbs, writes for “Avoiding the Drop” and went to Gilford High School? THIS GUY!
133 matches without a loss? Talk about “Invincibles”. Good lord.
The real question is whether or not he played for the soccer team.
