Posh and Becks don't want to get up to watch United win another title
Good morning. YOU would become my best friend in the world (a highly coveted position, mind) if you were to send us your vote for our year-end “Droppy” awards!
There are times when I wonder how these seasons just drift away like this. It’s September and things are just getting started. It’s Christmas and there is a huge glut of matches over the holidays. It’s March and teams are getting desperate. It’s mid-May, and it’s almost over. Where does all this time get to, I wonder? I suppose it’s hard to think about the passage of another season. This weekend will provide more than one permanent outcome in many of the major Euro leagues. MLS does a fantastic job of marketing themselves by having the only English-centric broadcast of their league start at 11PM EDT tonight.
So, in terms of the site, we can look back on this past week and see that:
- The Philadelphia Union were officially born.
- Cristiano Ronaldo may like to be dominated in bed.
- Richard Scudamore suddenly realised a huge financial problem exists.
- New kits were released all over the place.
- We answered your questions about beer and footy.
- Fuse described the downfall of Southampton FC in great detail.
And so on. You know how to scroll, most likely. So, it’s Saturday. The weekend. Next weekend, in addition to being the end of the Premier League season, is also a three-day weekend here in America. So plow through, keep your chin up and all that rot.
For our Mountain Time and Pacific Time American readers, there might be a Barclay’s Premier League champion by the time you have your morning coffee. If Manchester United draws or defeats Arsenal at Old Trafford, they will have won their third consecutive Premier League title. I suppose I should say congratulations to them.
I should say congratulations.
I’ll keep telling myself that.
“We lose against Man United who have 10 times more resources, it’s not a shame, they are the best in the world, congratulations to them.” – Arsene Wenger

Okay. Fine.
Congratulations to Manchester United.
Dammit.
this is what i think

Really was hoping that Man U would find a way to lose to give that last match against Hull the added drama that would make it a must-watch…but this seemed inevitable for weeks now. Same story, different year.
Now the only drama we have is the group of Northeast teams scratching and clawing their way to 17th next week, and who goes to Europe – Fulham or Tottenham. C’mon the Cottagers!
Fulham’s got an Everton team with 6th place on the line next week at the Cottage, while Spurs have to travel to Anfield. Liverpool won’t have as much to play for unless they lose tomorrow and Chelsea wins and they care about finishing 2nd. Spurs must win by 6 though, if Fulham draws. So, it’s unlikely. It’s probably better for Spurs to avoid Europe for a season anyway, although it will probably hurt their transfer plans. I dunno. I’m still trying to process a third United championship.
Hey, I didn’t say there was a lot of drama in the race to Europe, but it’s still enough to hold my interest. Fulham making it to the Europa League, oddly enough, will probably guarantee that next season will be a roller coaster ride like 2007-08, just because the team’s so light on experienced talent – but I guess that Giles Barnes, Chris Baird and others will get their paces in July and August to keep others fresh.
The ManU-Hull game won’t have any real title drama, but Hull’s still responsible for creating next week’s Newcastle-Aston Villa relegation scrapper by picking up a point today. If Villa wins, Newcastle’s done.
