In case you don’t follow South American soccer, Ronaldo’s been back at Corinthians lately, tearing it up in the Copa Libertadores. Just Wednesday, he scored a brace in Corinthians 2-2 draw against Ponta Prente; his strike rate thus far is four goals in five games, which I think we’ll all agree is pretty good.
At the press conference after the game (thankfully, no microphone attacks this time), he talked about a couple of things: first, he was exhausted after playing a full 90 minutes, and second, he’s doesn’t think it’s likely that he’ll leave Corinthians to go to the L.A. Galaxy at the end of the season.
Um, what?
Seriously, was there a lot of talk about this that I missed? I can actually find more news stories linking the other Ronaldo (the skinny/pretty/douchey one) to the Galaxy. In the bizarro world that is South American soccer, does this mean that Ronaldo’s campaigning to come to the Galaxy? Is there a story my Googling skills can’t find? Or is Ronaldo simply getting this out of the way, rejecting the Galaxy before they even get started?
This one is, admittedly, kind of beyond me. But, if October comes, and Ronaldo starts talking about how he’s taking Beckham’s place, just remember that you heard it here first.
I cannot recall whether I heard or read about this, but I’m pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere during the whole “is he, isn’t he” rhubarb surrounding Beckham. I think somebody was just tossing around names that could be brought in to replace him if he left the Galaxy permanently.
Oh God. I can only imagine what he’ll do with Vegas so close.
